Salmon, Mashed Cauliflower and Organic Avocado

So this past week I had a stall in my weight loss. Yesterday, while walking, I recalled something Pooti mentioned. She urged me to be cautious about using flax seed meal. Apparently, some people find it negatively impacts their ability to lose weight. Why? It's possible that it affects thyroid function.

I looked back at my menu history and noted that I began using the flax on the 14th (of February). I last weighed myself on the 23rd. Is there a connection? I don't know. I think I'll ditch the flax, for now, and see what happens. It's a shame really because flax meal does impart certain valuable health benefits. I even found a way around the whole phytic acid issue - by using sprouted flax seed meal.

Anyhow, perhaps I'll know better if it was the flax by next week or the following week. If nothing changes by then ... I'll reintroduce the sprouted flax.

Very interesting! I guess I'll stop using flax for awhile and see what happens too. Best of luck with your experiment.

Wow Harry,
I started STEADILY using flax on 1-29-09 and HERE is my Weigh In totals...........Hmmmmmmmmmmm

I have taken it off and on for awhile now, but not everyday.

Wonder if the pills do the same thing? Heard anything about that?

Geeezzzz, I have a lot to think about. What was the reason the flax stopped or slowed weight loss, do you remember?

Thanks for the heads up.

Howdy, Jo.

Keep in mind that the flax theory is just a theory. It appears to affect some people. How many is anyone's guess.

I'm just going to give it a shot and see if my weight loss proceeds or continues to stay stalled.

I'm hoping this is the problem. But, it's just a hunch.

re: the pills

I think it really depends on the "lignan" content of the pills. The lignans are the phytochemicals that are thought to interact with the thyroid.

A dysfunctioning thyroid can impact our metabolism - which can stall weight loss.

Wow, I have had great results using flax! I had more weightloss when I started using it in my shakes.

Hola, Sadekat.

I'm not convinced about the flax/weight loss stall link. I just want to see *if* it applies to me.

It could also be that flax affects men and women differently. For instance, the lignans in flax are known to impact testosterone levels in men. Because of this, it's often used as a natural preventative with regard to prostate cancer.

I'll know more in the coming week or two. I shall report back!
