Apparently it's Sausage Day in Wowee Zowee World. I ended up having two different kinds of sausages for all three meals. It just seemed to work out that way - not really planned.

Quick Note:
I was asked about my weight a few days ago. I weighed myself on Tuesday and I rang in at 182.3 lbs. My self-appointed goal weight is 180. Almost there.

Update (
10:05 pm): Felt the impulse to overeat tonight. Didn't do it though. A small victory. Funny how slipping up and binging would make me feel just awful (at least afterward) but convincing myself not to do it really doesn't feel the opposite of that. It just feels less bad.

Lamb Sausage and LC Mash

I want to take a moment to share my basic diet philosophy with any of you that may care to know it.

Personally, I try to structure a diet that ...

1. ... I can stick to and enjoy for the most part.

2. ... is generally composed of natural, health promoting foods and supplements.

3. ... allows me some flexibility for special occasions - like celebrations and vacations. This will come into play more so once I reach my goal weight.

4. ... affords me quick and easy (read: convenient) and satisfying snacks and meal options. Things that I can turn to whenever I feel like straying < --- which still happens from time to time.

I'm sure that many of you have noticed that I often use meal replacements. This isn't an issue for me because it helps me to stay on program. The ingredients I use tend to be natural, nutrient dense and organic. Therefore, I believe that they make an adequate, though perhaps not optimal, replacement for a whole food meal.

Apart from avoiding added sugar and starchy foods, I also make it a point to ban artificial colors, preservatives, sweeteners and hydrogenated oils from my menus. I'm mostly successful in doing that. That's about it - though it's subject to change. :-)

Hold the Buns

I had my head handed to me at the casino last night. I was feeling kind of down prior to going and I thought a little distraction would be helpful. I played like I normally do (which tends to result in minor winnings). But, this time I just couldn't catch a break.

Naturally, I felt undercurrents of demoralization setting in as I quickly realized I was the loser guy at the table. But, I didn't succumb to those demons. I stayed positive and tried to have fun anyway.

I also didn't stop to comfort myself at the dozen or so fast food joints that lined the streets on my way home. I felt a strong magnetic pull but resisted it. Instead, I went directly home and was rewarded with plenty of sweet hugs and kisses from the love of my life. I made myself an LC Mocha Shake as well - as a good butt kicking can work up quite an appetite. The end of the night finished strong.

Spicy Sauteed Shrimp and LC Mash

I did something this afternoon that I haven't done in a long time. I made myself a snack with little regard for it's nutritional content. But there's more to the story than that. A few things became apparent during the process:

1. I can make a relatively LC (and natural) snack that tastes every bit as good as the high-carb version.

2. Having such a snack doesn't trigger an increased desire (in me) for other off-program foods. If anything, it seems to help me get past cravings or impulses to eat foods that are harmful (for me). This is a self-destructive instinct that still pops up from time to time. It may be with me until the end of my days.

Making snacks like this *may* become one of my on-going coping mechanisms for dealing with my demons, while at the same time helping to make life more enjoyable.

Dill Salmon Fillet with Asparagus Spears

It's my 200th post. Do I get a cookie or something? :-)

I'm battling a "foggy head" today. The coffee is helping somewhat. Hopefully a powerhouse dinner will bring my neurological house in order. I'm planning to make salmon and grilled asparagus.

The Battle of the Low Carb Sweeteners

I'm doing something different tonight. I'm heading off to our local casino to play cards. Why? A few reasons really. 1) I need to get out more. I tend to be rather hermit-like. This isn't very healthy. When I go to the casino, I'm forced to interact with all kinds of interesting people - it's a pretty eclectic bunch. 2) On our recent trip to the desert, my wife and I actually did very well at the No Limit Hold 'em tables. So, I'm hoping to pick up a little extra cash while doing something I enjoy. Wish me luck!

Resolution: Starting back up with the 3x weekly gym work out. Friday morning will be my start point. Nothing fancy, just a moderately intense treadmill work out lasting 30-45 minutes + warm up and cool down time. Done, finished, end of story.

Update: I just posted my preliminary Luo Han Guo/Stevia experiment results. I'm calling it "The Battle of the Natural Sugar Substitutes"!
