Jour Dix-Neuf

Prosciutto-wrapped avocado-quarter.

Wednesday - December 10, 2008

Rough day mentally. I had a lot of negative-talk going on between my ears.

Still, I managed to get things done - menu-wise and otherwise. It just goes to show you ... you can feel like carbage and still plow forward.

9:45 am

+ one cup of "choco-coffee" - (two tablespoons of pure cocoa powder, one teaspoon of instant coffee, one packet of stevia + FOS and one packet of Also Salt)

+ one tablespoon of coconut oil (by the spoon!)

10:30 am

+ walking (with my lovely wife) on the treadmill - 10 minute warm-up, 30 minute high-intensity treadmill time and a 10 minute cool-down

11:30 am

+ a vanilla whey protein shake - (two scoops of natural vanilla whey protein powder, 4 oz of half and half, one packet of stevia + FOS and one packet of Also Salt)

2:30 pm

+ two large mugs of homemade vegetable soup - (lots of fatty broth from the short rib dinner, frozen asparagus spears and some Also Salt)

note: This is one of the side-benefits of making meals with a "slow-cooker". The broth that's left behind makes a lovely base for any vegetable soup.

I like to heat up the ultra-fatty broth with frozen veggies. When everything gets nice and warm, I blend the mixture into a smooth soup by way of my handy-dandy immersion blender. *

This tastes really yummy to me. It's rich, full-bodied and it allows me to easily consume a large quantity of healthy veggies. Meat broths are also very good for you.

* Immersion blenders (sometimes known as "stick blenders") are one of my favorite inventions of all time. I highly recommend investing in one, if you like to cook.

7:30 pm

+ a vanilla whey protein shake - (two scoops of natural vanilla whey protein powder, 2 oz of half and half, 2 oz of cream, one packet of stevia + FOS and one packet of Also Salt)

9:30 pm

+ leftover short rib

+ 1/4 mashed cauliflower

+ one avocado wrapped in slices of prosciutto

+ a glass of red wine

More to come ... I hope!

Hi Harry! Great job yesterday on no pizza!!!! I hear ya on the wine though. I really do love red wine. I gave up drinking everything else but red wine is still one of my favorite past times in the evening with my Denny and a couple of friends. It's such a social drink.

Sounds like you had another great day today as well!!! Good for you!

And people at work are always telling me how high in "good" fats they are!

.. I've just reached the section on the "good" and "bad" term beginnings....

I agree, Sadekat! Life without a stick blender is no life at all.

Thanks, Pooti. The pizza did call out to me. But, I played hard to get.

We agree on the red vino. Though, I must admit that I often drink it alone. Well actually, my wife's in the other room. Does that count as a social drink? :)

Thanks, Vadim. That's awfully nice of you to say. :)

I tend to have a depressive personality - believe it or not. I've struggled with depression for most of my life.

I'm also a pretty sensitive kind of fellow. Because of this, I often feel emotionally wounded on a pretty regular basis. This happens at work and on my off hours.

To be fair, I must say that some of this is likely my fault. I'm sure my interpretation of many of these hurtful events is often inaccurate.

So many things to work on ...

Howdy, Erika.

First you tell me you don't like pumpkin pie. Now this?!

Are you trying to tell me you don't even like guacamole?

What are they teaching you youngsters "down under"?!

I'm kidding of course. Just teasing you. :)

But, you've heard right ... avocados really are quite healthful.

Thanks for the encouragement, BayouBabe.

I tend to like Merlot best. But, to be honest, lately I've just been buying the most inexpensive organic red wines I can find. Often times, these are blends of various grapes.

There's a chain of health food stores around here, called Whole Foods, that carry a pretty good assortment of organic reds.
