Poached Salmon w/Horseradish Mustard Sauce & Garlic Broccoli

I tested my blood sugar after using some luo han guo today. The results were similar to yesterday's stevia trial. Once again, I drank my ChocoCoffee two hours post lunch. I tested my blood sugar prior to drinking it and got a reading of 84 (lower than yesterday). A half hour after drinking the CC (with the LHG), my blood sugar score was 90. A minor jump of 6 points.

Tomorrow I'll test the ChocoCoffee without any sweetener at all to see what that does to my BS. The following day, I'll test stevia again but will include a blood pressure reading as well as blood sugar. This experiment will continue on for quite a while. Hopefully I'll discover something useful worth sharing.

I can tell you that it appears that the luo han guo product isn't quite as sweet as the stevia product. One packet of either isn't enough to sweeten the CC properly. Eventually, I'll experiment with larger quantities (2-3 packets per cup o' CC).

8:00 am

Wowee Zowee Protein Shake version 3.0 - 3 scoops of True Whey (natural vanilla whey protein), 1 scoop of Amazing Grass Chocolate Greens, 4 oz of purified water, 1 tsp of organic instant coffee and 1/4 tsp of Also Salt

+ 1 heaping tbsp of organic coconut oil

Crispy, Spicy Chicken with LC Mash

I'm beginning my Luo Han Guo vs. Stevia Experiment today. I bought a blood glucose monitor and have both sweeteners on hand. Let the games begin!

Update: My first test involved a before and after test on stevia. I found a 6 point bump in blood sugar. Here's how I got there: I tested my blood sugar (about 2 hours after breakfast) and got a reading of 97. I drank a mug of stevia-sweetened ChocoCoffee and then retested my blood sugar about a half hour later. The reading showed 103. How much of that was the stevia? I don't know ... yet.

Dinner - Bison Burger and Spicy Guacamole

Note: I haven't been in the best frame of mind lately, folks. I'm sorry I've been behind on the menu blogging and my comments on your blogs. Tomorrow's another day. A better one, I hope.

I've been doing a modified liquid diet and cleanse for the passed few days. That is, until dinner tonight.

I'm reevaluating my program at the moment and am looking to make some minor changes soon. More on that once I figure out exactly what I'm doing.

One change I have decided on is that I'll be measuring my weight on a monthly basis from this point forth. I suspect I'm continuing to lose weight or fat because my pants and shorts continue to feel looser. But I'm also sure I'm slowing down as I approach my goal. So I just want to get the numbers out of my mind for awhile.

In a month we'll see where I'm at. I'm hoping to break the 190 benchmark by my next weigh-in.

9:30 am

+ a large cup of organic coffee with a few ounces organic heavy cream

+ psyllium husk capsules - as part of a periodic cleanse

12:00 pm

153 è il Numero Magico

Note: I don't understand why but my "Followers" list isn't displaying properly.

Burgers. That's been my thing lately. Simple food. Comforting, filling and inexpensive.

Tonight I made rectangular buffalo burgers. I pan fried some onions and laid both on top of a beautiful mound of mashed cauliflower. Bam!

I managed to take a walk this afternoon. I opted for a real walk around neighborhood. Said hello to the boats, aquatic birds, sea lions and yachts I encountered along the way. All the while listening to a Jimmy Moore podcast with Ann Louise Gittleman.

I've been Skyping with my wife whenever possible. It's so much cooler than a regular phone connection or e-mail. Technology can be a beautiful thing - when it's not maddening!

On the work front, I just completed an article documenting the newest findings about green and white tea. There's something in there about H. pylori, LowCarber. Check it out! :-)

And now, it's menu time ...

10:30 am

+ a mug o' ChocoCoffee

+ a tbsp. of organic coconut oil

2:00 pm

+ sliced pork roast and homemade, organic guacamole

4:45 pm

Durch Meinen Zählimpuls 152 Tage.

Well folks I have two items to confess:

1) My wife just left on 3 day trip to New York with our nieces. First off, this means that I may appear to be a bit more lost than usual. This may appear to be the case because it will likely be the case. Secondly, I will not be posting my traditional meal photographs for a few days. But I will happily post some of my wife's photos from NYC when she returns home (with the camera). I hope that's a fair deal. :-)

2) I didn't work out today. My legs are still quite sore from Monday's elipitical + treadmill workout. I'm beginning to wonder if elipitcal trainers are leftover remnants from the Spanish Inquisition. Hmm. Maybe time travel is possible.

I'm tentatively planning on working out tomorrow. If I do so, it'll be a mellower sort of routine.

7:45 am

+ a large mug o' ChocoCoffee

+ 1 tbsp. of organic coconut oil

12:45 pm

+ one organic, rectangular burger on a bed of homemade mashed cauliflower

6:30 pm

+ a large mug o' ChocoCoffee

+ 1 tbsp. of organic coconut oil

8:30 pm

+ 3 slices of turkey (thin deli style) and 3 slices of prosciutto all wrapped around a homemade Italian creamed spinach filling

October's father is currently in the hospital and is going through a very difficult time. Our prayers and good will can only help, I believe. That is my sincere hope, at least.

Salmon w/Crispy Skin and Mashed Cauliflower

I'll try to make this short and sweet: My weight didn't budge much. But my body fat did drop however. I don't know if this shift has to do with the change in my exercise routine or perhaps the coconut oil is making an impact.

In any event, I think I have around 10-15 pounds left to lose and I need to figure out how to do that. I'm going to give my body one more week to start losing again. If it doesn't then I'll make some kind of change in my diet/menus. Patience: Is it a virtue or a stalling technique?

¿Cuántos Días y Noches? 147.

Ladies and gents, I'm going to post the exact details on my Low Carber (our fellow menu blogging amigo) inspired "luo han guo vs. stevia challenge" later today.

I'll post the info. here and in the comment section of my original post (Luo Han Guo- Another Sugar Alternative).

I hope some of you will join me in this little experiment. No pressure though. Just mentioning it in case it might be of interest.

I'll put up my own results (and the results of anyone who participates *) in the common weeks. More details on that to come.

* I can certainly post your results anonymously, if any of you would prefer that.

Here are the Official Healthy Fellow Luo Han Guo Experiment Guidelines:

1. Conduct a "blind" taste test on at least 3 people.

Example: Make two identical drinks (like coffee, lemonade or tea). One should be sweetened with a serving of stevia. The other drink needs to be sweetened with luo han guo.

Give each drink to a family member or friend to try. Get their impressions. Which do they like better? Ask them to rank their satisfaction for each drink/sweetener, on a scale of 1-10 (1 being complete dissatisfaction and 10 being complete satisfaction).

2. *If* you have a blood glucose monitor: Collect blood sugar readings prior to drinking and 30 minutes after drinking a stevia sweetened drink for 3 days (they need not be consecutive days). Then repeat this exact procedure using luo han guo as a sweetener for another 3 days.

Try to collect your blood sugar readings under similar circumstances. For instance, if the afternoon is a good time for you ... collect all your readings in the afternoon. Try to keep your eating schedule the same too. As an example, don't eat a snack prior to having a sweetened drink on one day and then have no snack with your drink the next day.

3. *If* you have any other medical devices at home, such as a blood pressure or pulse monitor ... please use them in a similar manner.

Personally, I will use my blood pressure and pulse monitor in addition to the blood glucose monitor.

Any questions? Please feel free to ask them.

I hope to collect all the results within the next 2-3 weeks. But I will of course accept any and all late entries. The more information we collect, the better.

Holy Guacamole! Octopus!

I need to start making "to do" lists for myself. Trying to remember everything that needs to get done just isn't possible without them. My mind naturally gravitates to a more "free spirit" approach to living but that just doesn't work with the realities of my life. Actually, not planning enough ends up being more of a burden because then I'm always in a position where I have to try and remember things on the spot. < -- not my strong suit I hope this will make some sense to somebody out there. Otherwise I'll have to add "make more sense" to my daily schedule. A tall order indeed.

Dag 142

Pork al Pastor with Homemade Spicy Guacamole

I have (at least) two items that I want to address in today's WZ blog.

#1: I'm going to be adding to my work out routine. In addition to treadmill exercise, I'll also be including 3 sets of "jumping jacks" and 3 sets of "push ups". Nothing too intense though.

My body fat percentage isn't moving along very quickly. I'm hoping that a combination of more/different exercises and regular coconut oil consumption may help to change that.

#2: Today is my "weigh in" day. A pattern appears to be emerging in my recent weight loss history. During one week I will hardly lose anything at all (less than 1/2 a lb.). The following week I often lose a considerable amount of weight (2 to 3 lbs.). This weeks loss is consistent with that. I'll post the figures shortly.

Maybe the changes that I mentioned in point #1 will help alter point #2? We shall see. Wish me luck! :-)

141 Tage Hier

Jalapeno Poppers with Spicy Chipotle Sauce

Pork al Pastor with Spicy Guacamole

We're going to a friend's house to celebrate Easter. The meet time is around 10:00 am.

I'm having something to eat/drink prior to going because I think it may be a "bagel and cream cheese" kind of get together. It's possible that there will be some smoked salmon hanging around but I can't/shouldn't count on it. Better to plan ahead and be well fed than sorry.

I hope you all have a blessed Easter and Passover. :-)

Update: There wasn't any smoked salmon but there was some roasted turkey. That worked out just fine. It was juicy and delicious. Yay!

Poached Salmon Fillet and Homemade Guacamole

The Current ChocoCoffee Line Up

I had a late start to my day. My body and mind were tired. Getting out of bed felt like getting out of a quicksand pit.

I bounced back somewhat as the day progressed. My menu was quite good. That's got to count for something. :-)

+ thick sliced natural salami

1:15 pm (ingredients posted above)

Birthday Dinner - Part Deux

Wild John Dory w/Morrel Mushrooms & Asparagus

Prime New York Steak w/Baby Broccoli & Bone Marrow

Milk Chocolate Lollipops with Liquid Passionfruit Centers

Salt Caramels, Black Currant Jellies & Chocolate Oatmeal Truffles

I tried some of my wife's delicious John Dory and asparagus but kept the sweets at a safe distance! Treacherous territory indeed!
